Densities of the Kuiper Belt's Dwarf Planets

Bacon (STSci) Kuiper Belt objects with absolute magnitude less than 3 (radius >500 km), the dwarf planets, have a range of different ice/rock ratios, and are more rock-rich than their smaller counterparts. Many of these objects have moons, which suggests that collisions may have played a role in modifying their compositions.

The Kuiper belt is a circumstellar disc in the Solar System beyond the planets, extending from the orbit of Neptune (at 30 AU) to approximately 50 AU from the Sun. It is similar to the asteroid belt (the circumstellar disc located roughly between the orbits of the planets Mars and Jupiter), but it is far larger-20 times as wide and 20 to 200 times as massive.
